I remembered when my mom accidentally stepped on a stink bug in her bedroom.

• It was an odor that is really hard to forget.

That is what stuck out at me when my husband dragged this old furnace home with him. He insisted that it was a steal and he knew it would not just heat the house well, but it would be efficient. I was afraid to even see the furnace come off the truck, but he was persistent. He had his brother come to the house to help him take the furnace off the truck and get it set up in the basement. I asked him if he was sure that the furnace was the right thing for our home? He told me he was positive it was the right furnace for our house. I kept smelling this odd odor coming from that machine, but I wasn’t sure what it was. As he and his brother dragged the furnace down into the basement, the odor got even stronger. When I saw him grab a hammer and screwdriver and head toward the furnace, I panicked. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to open that furnace, even though I wasn’t sure why. My husband kissed my forehead and told me to relax. He no sooner got the front off the furnace that I saw them come flying out at us. There must have been about a million stink bugs coming out of that furnace. It was an odor I knew it was going to take some time to get rid of.

I am not really hard to please. You can even ask my wife and she’ll tell you that it doesn’t take much to make me happy. As long as I know that the people who are around me are content and my home is clean and safe, I’m happy. If my daughter says she is going to do the dishes before we get home from work and she does it, I am thrilled. I guess I expect people to do what they tell me they are going to do. The last time I was disappointed and upset was when my HVAC company was at the house. I thought that by hiring a professional HVAC company to upgrade my heating and air conditioning, I would be able to have less mess and the job would be done right. I guess I should have done more investigation into the HVAC company I chose to do the job. I was going to have radiant heated flooring and central air conditioning. What I ended up with was a broken HVAC system and flooring that had been destroyed. I was so upset that I was spitting nails. I called the HVAC company and asked them to explain what they thought they were doing. The owner of the company showed up to look at the mess. He offered to replace the hardwood and then he told me the work would be completed by the end of the week. I was happy when he offered to pay for a hotel for the three days for the mess to be cleaned up.

This pandemic has me so messed up that I wonder if I’m not going crazy at times. My mind is functioning faster than what I can handle. I’m not sure if this is normal, but the more I hear people talking, the more I realize I’m not alone in how I feel. I know that my HVAC system was right there with me when it came to being able to function normally. I’m also pretty sure that the HVAC technicians are also having a difficult time trying to deal with this sensory overload. The reason I feel this way is becauseI had to call the HVAC company last week. I wanted to make sure my furnace was functioning well before winter set in. I didn’t want to be stuck with a furnace that didn’t work well when the snow and sub freezing temperatures started. I called the HVAC company and asked if they could send someone out to check on the furnace. They gave me a date and time when the HVAC technician could arrive. I meticulously wrote the date and time down when they gave it to me. I even circled the date on the calendar. I wanted to make sure I was there and ready for the HVAC technician. I didn’t want to be caught out of the house and unable to let the HvAC technician into the house. I was definitely home because the day before he was supposed to arrive, the doorbell was ringing at 7AM. I hadn’t expected him until 8AM or before the next day. I ran downstairs in my bathrobe, only to see him standing there wondering why I wasn’t already up.

I know that I am high maintenance and I have never denied it.

I have reasons to be high maintenance. I have asthma and allergies. For these reasons, I want to make sure that everything that surrounds me is perfect. I only have natural products and materials. I make sure my HVAC system is running perfectly and my air quality must be pristine. I expect my thermostat to work well and be able to control the temperature in my home. I feel no compunction in replacing a part of the HVAC system if it isn’t functioning well. I don’t understand replacing parts in the furnace or AC unit when it is just the beginning of other parts failing. My air quality is only as perfect as the machinery that is maintaining it. So, when my allergies and asthma began rearing their ugly heads again, I knew I had a problem. I called the HVAC company to have a complete inspection done on my HVAC system. They were going to check the heating, air conditioning, and the ductwork. I wanted to have the problem in the system stopped before it could get any worse. I was surprised when the HVAC technician arrived the following day. It only took him a matter of minutes to discover what was wrong. He found that the ductwork was full of mold. Every time the furnace or air conditioning turned on, the air flowing through the ductwork and out the air vents was contaminated with mold. The following day I had a professional ductwork cleaning team coming into the house. They cleaned and sanitized the ductwork, causing me to feel better almost instantly.

I can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to some things.

My wife says I am anal, but I say that I am just cautious.

I try to stay ahead of things that could possibly go wrong. I get really nervous when there is a possible problem happening, and I want to have it repaired before it actually breaks. My latest problem that needed dealt with was the furnace. I noticed our energy bill was going higher every month and I was convinced it had to do with my furnace. It was winter and we were running the furnace constantly. To be honest, it was the furnace that was running constantly and I was sure there was something wrong with the furnace. I was also sure that the furnace was causing the energy bills to go higher. I called the HVAC company and I had the entire furnace gone over. It costs us quite a bit of money to get the furnace back into shape. My wife said that it may have been cheaper to simply purchase a new furnace, but I dismissed her and her statement. I wasn’t about to go without heating during the winter and I had done what I needed to do. I never gave any thought to the idea that it could have been our air conditioning that was having trouble. That is, I didn’t think about it until the air conditioner broke down right at the beginning of the next summer. Now I not only had to have the air conditioning repaired or replaced, but it was going to cost me emergency service fees to have it done.

My husband has a habit of going overboard when he finds a project.

He always wants to have the best and do more than is necessary.

His motto is that if you’re going to do something, do it better than necessary and it will last longer. This motto goes for whether it is his RC helicopters and cars, or for work around the house. The last time he did this, I had the worst mess possible to clean up. I told him about the humidity in the house. I thought we needed to install a dehumidifier into the HVAC system. Our heating and air conditioning worked well, but he had to do more. I had talked to the HVAC company and they could install a whole home dehumidifier that would automatically drain outside and there would be no fuss or mess. We would have a type of thermostat where we could set the amount of humidity we were comfortable with. Instead of going with a simple whole home dehumidifier, he talked about upgrading the entire HVAC system. Throughout all of this unnecessary work, he never once addressed the humidity problem. When he was done with all of his upgrades, I asked him about the dehumidifier. He was a bit chagrined, and he simply walked away from me. The next day, he came from work, with a portable dehumidifier. He was quick to set the dehumidifier into the basement. Unfortunately, he didn’t think about the reservoir that needed to be emptied. When I went down to do my laundry, the dehumidifier was overflowing and I had about an inch of water on the basement floor. At least I had dirty towels to clean up some of the water.

I felt my heart flutter and I couldn’t take my eyes off her

I don’t believe in love at first. I have never even thought that love could happen to me. I was fine with being a single guy and living by myself. I date once in a while, but getting serious was not in the cards for me. I thought that maybe my heart was too hard to find love, but I was soon to find that this was not true. You see, I had to have some work done on my furnace. I hadn’t had the furnace serviced early that year because of the pandemic. I usually have the furnace cleaned and serviced after winter is over. The pandemic had me not wanting to have anyone, including the HVAC technician coming into my house. I didn’t want to go through a winter without having my furnace serviced, so I gave up and called the HVAC company. I told them the HVAC technician had to wear a mask while in the house, and he needed to wear rubber gloves. The person who took my call promised me that they would follow all protocol to keep myself and the HVAC tech safe. The minute the technician walked into the house, I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Not only was it the first female HVAC tech I had ever seen, but she was stunning. I felt my heart flutter and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. I sat in the basement the entire time, talking to her and not wanting to go away. I would have asked the HVAC tech if I hadn’t seen her wedding ring glistening in the light. At least I knew my heart was open and ready to find love.

When I moved into my home, I never thought I would be calling a professional HVAC company to do a rehaul of my HVAC system.

When my wife and I moved in, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t need any major work any time soon.

We had a professional HVAC inspector look at the furnace, air conditioning and ventilation system. He told us that it was a fairly new system and we shouldn’t have any problem for several years. He suggested we have the regular cleaning and maintenance done to make sure the HVAC system continues working as efficiently as possible. After hearing this news, we never thought we would be calling the HVAC commpany to have changes made, within a year. As good as the central heating and air conditioning worked, it didn’t work well in the bathroom. The humidity control in the house, was excellent, but it never cleared out the humidity in the bathroom. Even with the ventilation fan in the bathroom, we had a huge problem with the humidity. We knew we had to do something different to deal with the humidity and improve our ventilation system. The only thing we could come with was to have a separate HVAC system just for the bathroom. The HVAC technician had several ideas on how to solve the humidity problem in the bathroom, but we insisted we just have a separate HVAC system. We wanted to have a ventilation system that was dedicated just to that area. When you take at least one hot and steamy shower a day, you need a good ventilation system.

I never thought I would be spending the last ten months sitting in my house. I’m not allowed to go outside and gather with friends, and I’m not allowed to have my friends gather in my house. I am not the type of person who likes being alone, but I don’t want to catch the virus either. I wanted someone in my life who could come to my house and stay here. Traditional dating was out of the picture since you can’t go to parties and bars. I decided to try the online dating route. I must admit that getting amorous online is quite strange. It is hard to be romantic when you can’t be sure you’re talking to the same person whose picture you are looking at. The few girls I did feel comfortable with, wouldn’t even stay at my house long enough to get to know her. It wasn’t until my second in-house date showed up that I knew I had a problem. She was honest enough to tell me that my house smelled horrible and I figured out that I had an air quality problem. I guess sitting in the house by myself didn’t really give me much need to take notice of my air quality, but it was a deterrent when you wanted to find someone to share your life with. I called the HVAC company to have them come in and check out my HVAC equipment and also to clean the air vents and ductwork. I have only one thing to say to everyone out there who is looking to date in this time of the pandemic. Be aware of your air quality and make sure the HVAC system is up to snuff.

We are all suffering a degree of depression this year.

It hasn’t really been a year for gathering and enjoying friends and family.

Most of us have spent our last ten months in our homes, far away from others. My depression has been at an all time low. I am spending most of my time sitting in front of my television and just waiting for when I get the virus and die. This definitely is not the direction I wanted my life to be going in, but there it is and here I am. That’s when I knew it was time for me to make a big turn around. I had to do something to pul myself out of this slump I was in. When I realized how bad my air quality had become, I decided one of the first things I had to do was to do some changes in my HVAC system and repair my air quality. I knew how important air quality was and I also knew how it affected your attitude. I motivated myself enough to change the air filter to the HVAC system, at least once in a while, but that wasn’t enough. My energy bills were getting higher, and I needed to find out what was wrong. I called the HVAC company, hoping I should be able to get some service without having them too close to me. When he finally arrived, it didn’t take him long to get my air quality back under control. I knew that once I got my air quality back under control, I would also begin feeling better.
