No A/C after a hurricane
I remember when I was 12, a devastating storm hit the town that I lived in, then the town took a direct hit and a lot of people were out of power for a while.
After a disturbing night in the dark, wondering how long the storm would last, the sun finally came out and the two of us were all shocked at the outcome of the powerful storm.
This was the middle of the summer time in a southern region, so you can imagine the heat that the two of us had to endure during this time, however every one of us cooked on the grill and used water from the pool to flush the toilets. Every one of us were not used to this kind of living, most of my friends had power after a few mornings but for some reason, my family’s house did not get power back for 4 weeks. Every one of us finally broke down and had my aunt bring us a generator so that the two of us could run electrically to a portable air conditioning system. My entire family slept in one room for more than one weeks until the power was back on, but i remember going to my friends house and thinking how the two of us had taken electricity for granted my whole life! When the power finally came back on, the two of us were thrilled to learn that the A/C was still toiling in all of our rooms. A week separate from A/C in the heat can entirely build some character, or at least that is what my Mom told us. Every one of us are forever grateful for the mornings the two of us get to spend in the A/C during the summer time months.
